Tom & Carole Huber Scholarship

We are very excited to announce the continuation of a scholarship program that will enable the next generation of conservation leaders to grow and develop, while also honoring two individuals who have made significant contributions to RMFI and the Colorado Springs community. We hope that you will contribute to the “Tom and Carole Huber Scholarship.” 

The Huber Scholarship fund will provide vital financial assistance to students enrolled in RMFI’s signature educational field studies program, Earth Corps. Earth Corps provides motivated undergraduate students the opportunity to live and learn in the natural classroom of the Colorado mountains. Now in its 20th year, nearly 200 students have graduated from the program; many have used the skills and knowledge from Earth Corps to go on to serve in careers focused on conservation, environmental stewardship, and sustainability. Simply put, Earth Corps changes lives and positively impacts the environment.  

Tom and Carole Huber were instrumental in the design and support of Earth Corps nearly 20 years ago, and both have made an indelible mark in the lives of young people through their decades of teaching geography and environmental studies at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), serving on nonprofit boards, mentoring young conservation leaders, and making positive change in this community. 

Our goal in the second year is to raise $5,000 to fund at least two full scholarships for students participating in the 2021 Earth Corps program. The 18-day academic program will take place on Pikes Peak this year where ten students learn to apply trail-building and alpine stewardship skills, participate in place-based activities, and engage with experts in the field about geography, wilderness management, outdoor leadership, botany, and other critical topics.
