Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) is one of the leading trail stewards in Colorado and headquartered near Garden of the Gardens and Pikes Peak-America's Mountain in beautiful Colorado Springs.  RMFI is gearing up for a busy 2024 season and looking to fill multiple positions.  

Education Director

Rocky Mountain Field Institute is searching for a passionate and inspirational Education Director that is committed to providing high-quality education programs across diverse platforms. The Education Director will lead RMFI’s educational initiatives aimed at promoting environmental conservation and stewardship. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing educational programs for high-school aged students and adults that engage diverse audiences and support RMFI’s conservation goals. The Education Director will collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners to enhance environmental literacy and inspire a commitment to protecting our public lands. They provide leadership and guidance to the education department to ensure professional standards are upheld and organizational objectives are met. The Education Director must have experience in trail construction and maintenance as well as experience teaching environmental/conservation education and curriculum development. This position serves as an integral member of the leadership team in guiding the organization while supporting annual planning, budgeting, fundraising, strategic planning, board participation, and decision-making about the future of Rocky Mountain Field Institute.

Environmental Leadership Internship

The Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) offers the Environmental Leadership Internship (ELI) each field season for an unpaid internship in conserving natural public landscapes in the Southern Rocky Mountain Region through land stewardship and education. This internship is suited for those looking to learn more in the areas of trail building, public land conservation, the nonprofit sector of the outdoor industry, and natural resource management. ELIs will also help coordinate and run RMFI’s community volunteer projects, these projects take place primarily on weekends and select weekdays from mid-April to November. Project sites may include Garden of the Gods and other City of Colorado Springs parks, El Paso County park locations, and various U.S. Forest Service trails like Barr Trail and Devils Playground. This position will consist mostly of fieldwork with some office work and events representing RMFI in the community.
